The Rock Island Public Library has launched a three-year project called “You Are Not Alone” to provide mental health resources and support in the community. Funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) approved by the Rock Island City Council, the project aims to bring in skilled individuals to discuss mental health issues and assist those in need.

The library’s promotional phase began this week, with mental health resource cards distributed containing key phone numbers and a QR code leading to more community resources. Visitors can also pick up “Stop the Stigma” wristbands, pins, and stickers at the library. The goal is to provide resources for anyone in need, whether it’s for themselves or someone they care about.

In the fall, comfort carts stocked with items to combat loneliness and resources like journals will be launched. The library aims to be seen as more than just a place for books, focusing on relationship building and community building.

Future phases of the project will include additional programming and events supported by ARPA funding, focusing on mental health topics and creating safe spaces for individuals to seek support. The library hopes to shed light on the resources and support they offer and encourage people to utilize their services for mental health needs.
