On Thursday, the Roanoke County School Board made a decision to name the new facility that will replace the Burton Center for Arts & Technology. The new facility will be known as the Roanoke County Career and Technology Center. The vote on the naming decision resulted in a 4-1 outcome, with school board member David Linden voting against it.

Linden explained that while he appreciated the efforts of the committee that proposed the new name, he suggested an alternative name, Specialty Academics of Roanoke County, abbreviated as SPARC. According to Linden, the SPARC name would help differentiate the new center from other technical centers in the region. Regardless of the name chosen, Linden emphasized that the quality of education offered by the new center is most essential.
