On Monday evening at the Iowa High School Sports Awards, Derek Weisskopf of Williamsburg and Jaidyn Sellers of Panorama were named the Boys and Girls Athlete of the Year, respectively. The event, presented by SCHEELS, recognized over 250 student-athletes from Iowa.

Weisskopf’s impressive performance on the football field earned him numerous accolades such as being an ADIDAS All-American, Class 3A All-State Captain, District MVP, and more. He also excelled in basketball and track and field, earning state medals in both. As a four-star recruit, Weisskopf will be playing football for Iowa next year.

On the other hand, Sellers demonstrated her versatility in excelling in multiple sports during her high school career. She was a standout sprinter in track and field, winning multiple state titles in various events. Sellers also shone on the basketball court, leading her team to a state championship. In addition to her athletic prowess, she will be continuing her career at Iowa for softball as an outfielder.

SCHEELS sponsored both the Boys and Girls Athlete of the Year awards at the event held at Hoyt-Sherman Place in Des Moines.
