Billy Price, a talented center who was drafted by the Bengals in the first round in 2018, has announced his retirement from the NFL at the young age of 29 due to health concerns. A recent emergency pulmonary embolism surgery that removed a saddle clot entering both of his lungs has left Price with no choice but to retire from professional football. Despite being healthy and full of energy, Price expressed fear at experiencing an unprovoked pulmonary embolism with no clear medical explanation. Grateful for surviving this scary experience, Price stated that the risk of an internal bleed while on blood thinners is too great for him to continue playing in the NFL.

In a heartfelt social media post, Price reflected on his time in the league. He thanked the Bengals for giving him a chance and allowing him to play in some of the best atmospheres around the world. As a two-time Rimington Trophy winner at Ohio State, Price expressed gratitude for training and playing alongside talented teammates who have gone on to achieve Pro Bowl, All Pro Roster, and Hall of Fame recognitions.

After leaving Cincinnati, Price spent time with several other teams including the Giants before having brief stints with the Raiders, Cardinals, Saints, and Cowboys. Although he had a promising career ahead of him, his health scare has forced him to make a difficult decision to retire from professional football and focus on his well-being.
