Rishabh Pant is a valuable asset to the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup, according to Ricky Ponting, head coach of the Delhi Capitals. Ponting praised Pant’s impact on games and his ability to adapt to different situations during a match, stating that it would be a mistake not to select him for the tournament.
Ponting also discussed the importance of having versatile and aggressive batsmen in T20 cricket. He suggested that traditional anchor players no longer have a place in the game, as there is less space for them to operate. Instead, he emphasized the need for strong and aggressive players who can adjust their approach as needed in order to succeed.
Regarding the extension of Impact Player’s concept to T20 cricket, Ponting expressed reservations about its application in international cricket. He believes that international cricket should prioritize having the strongest squad of players for major tournaments like the World Cup and managing them effectively throughout the competition. Ponting suggested leaving the format as it is currently, in order to maintain the integrity and competitiveness of international cricket.
