Kannar Earth Science, Ltd. has licensed a patent-pending technology from Cornell University to develop Multi-Seed Pellets (MSP) that can be used to embed small milkweed and other pollinator seeds into pellets. This innovation aims to make planting pollinator habitat as easy and cost-effective as planting corn and soy. Dr. Alan Taylor, a seed science and technology professor at Cornell University, brought his team’s seed technology to Kannar in 2023 to help pollinators, growers, and functional ecology habitats.

The method developed by the Cornell team involves embedding various pollinator seeds into pellets that can be planted using standard equipment, overcoming the limitations and expenses associated with current broadcasting or hand-planting methods. Field trials for MSP are planned in the US, Canada, and Mexico with initial support from Corteva, Laura Turner Seydel, and the Turner’s Avalon Plantation. Commercial availability of MSP is expected in 2025, and updates on availability will be provided on www.kannargroup.com.

This collaboration between Kannar and Cornell aims to benefit both agriculture and the environment by providing a win-win solution for forestry and landholders interested in beautification and biodiversity. Industry leaders and influencers showed enthusiasm for MSP when it was debuted at the Monarchs and More Network Meeting in Austin, Texas in March.
