Verne Lundquist, a longtime member of the CBS Sports broadcast team, is bidding farewell to his role at the 2024 Masters. He has been spending time with friends and reminiscing with colleagues at Augusta National Golf Club. During a recent fundraiser in Austin, Texas, for Ben Crenshaw’s Save Muny project, Lundquist announced his retirement plans.

Lundquist has been calling shots on the 16th hole during the Masters since 1984 and his voice has become synonymous with the tournament. His colleague Jim Nantz praised him for bringing the history of golf back to life during the Masters. As he prepares to leave, Lundquist is eager to find out who will take over his duties on the 16th hole. With easier access to the tower now, whoever follows in his footsteps will have fewer obstacles in making their calls during the tournament.

The question arises of who will replace Lundquist as a member of the CBS Sports broadcast team at Augusta National Golf Club. Although he claims he doesn’t know who his successor will be yet, fans and colleagues alike are preparing to bid farewell to an iconic figure in sports broadcasting. Lundquist’s legacy will undoubtedly live on through his memorable calls and contributions to the Masters broadcast over the years.
