SandboxAQ, a company specializing in artificial intelligence and quantum technologies, has introduced a new multi-domain navigation product called AQNav. This product aims to provide efficient navigation support in cases where the Global Positioning Satellite system is jammed or unavailable. The product utilizes AI algorithms, strong quantum sensors, and the Earth’s crust magnetic field for real-time navigation.

Eric Schmidt, chairman of SandboxAQ and former CEO of Google, highlighted the importance of having a global supplementary navigation system that works with inertial systems, especially in cases of GPS spoofing. He believes that AQNav is a prime example of how AI is making a significant impact on society by enabling navigation through the Earth’s magnetic field.

The new product targets industries such as agriculture, financial services, public infrastructure, and safety systems that are affected by GPS interference. SandboxAQ collaborated with both public and private sector partners to leverage AI and quantum technology in developing a secure navigation alternative to supplement GPS. The AQNav system is now available worldwide to companies and governments.

In January 2023, SandboxAQ was awarded a Direct-to-Phase-II Small Business Innovation Research contract from the USAF to conduct tests and create geomagnetic navigation systems. By May 2023, the company had successfully completed its first flight tests of AQNav. To date, AQNav has accumulated over 200 flight hours and completed more than 40 missions across various regions using different aircraft models ranging from single-engine planes to large military vessels.

Overall, SandboxAQ’s introduction of AQNav highlights the potential benefits of integrating AI and quantum technologies into navigational systems to ensure reliable and efficient navigation in challenging conditions.
