RiverView Health is proud to welcome Dr. Brennen Smith, DO, to its Orthopaedics Team. As an orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Smith specializes in a wide range of general procedures and trauma, including scope, repair, and replacement of upper extremities, hips, and knees.

In June, Dr. Smith will be launching a Mako Robotic-Arm Joint Replacement Program at RiverView Health for adults with mid to late-stage osteoarthritis of the knee or hip. This innovative technology provides patients with a personalized surgical plan based on their unique anatomy, resulting in better outcomes. Some benefits of robotic-arm assisted surgery include smaller incisions, less scarring, reduced blood loss, minimal hospitalization and rapid recovery.

Carrie Michalski, president/CEO of RiverView Health expressed excitement about the new addition to the joint program aimed at improving patient outcomes and consistency of results for RiverView patients and the surrounding region. Dr. Smith emphasizes the importance of seeking medical attention when experiencing pain and encourages patients to come seek treatment sooner rather than later.

Dr. Smith grew up in Mitchellville IA before pursuing a career as a veterinarian before attending medical school at Des Moines University to earn his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO). He completed his internship and residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Doctors Hospital in Columbus OH followed by a fellowship in Spine Surgery at New Albany Surgical Hospital in New Albany OH.
