In the midst of the historic 100-year health pandemic, businesses across Michigan have shown resilience and optimism about the future. This was one of the key takeaways from a recent conversation featuring Quentin Messer, Jr., CEO of Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), Chris Holman, CEO of Michigan Business Network, and Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan Barnett on CBS Detroit’s Michigan Matter.

Messer leads MEDC, an organization that assists businesses looking to expand or relocate to Michigan. He discussed the selection of 27 organizations to serve as entrepreneurial hubs as part of the $75 million Small Business Smart Zones and Business Accelerator initiative, explaining how they support businesses in their growth and development.

Holman shared findings from a statewide poll of hundreds of Michigan businesses, with talent acquisition emerging as a top concern. Despite the challenges, the poll revealed a sense of optimism among businesses in the state. Barnett highlighted Rochester Hills’ strength in manufacturing robotics and its ongoing growth, as well as the recent success of the Oakland University Golden Grizzlers men’s basketball team in the NCAA Tournament.
