On April 17, a chamois caught in a hunter’s trap was discovered during a patrol by the forest protection community group in Ta Lu commune, Dong Giang district. The group immediately sprung into action and successfully rescued the animal.

According to the Director of the Management Board of Sao La Species Conservation Area in Quang Nam, Mr. Le Hoang Son, the rescue was carried out by six security officers who carefully untangled the chamois from the trap and set it free back into the forest. The chamois, scientifically known as Capricornis milneedwardsii, is classified as an endangered species and is a priority for protection. These animals belong to the bovine family and are endemic to Southeast Asia, particularly in countries like Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand.

Sadly, their population in Vietnam is dwindling due to hunting, trapping, and loss of habitat. However, this rescue highlights the importance of conservation efforts in protecting endangered species like this one. It serves as a reminder of the threats they face and the role that community groups and conservation areas play in safeguarding their future.
