Alan Smith, a former Arsenal striker, has expressed his condolences following the death of Kevin Campbell at the age of 54. Campbell was a lifelong Arsenal fan who developed through the club’s youth system after joining at the age of 15. He made his senior debut for Arsenal in 1988 and scored nine goals in 22 appearances during the club’s title-winning 1990-91 season, as well as contributing to their FA Cup and League Cup double in 1993 and European Cup Winners’ Cup win in 1994.
Campbell’s impressive career continued after he left Arsenal in 1995 to play for Nottingham Forest. In his time with the Gunners, he played 228 times and scored 59 goals. Smith spoke highly of Campbell, describing him as ambitious and driven with a warm-hearted personality. He praised Campbell’s work ethic and the impact he had on his teammates, noting that many former players will be deeply saddened by his passing.
Smith emphasized that Campbell’s legacy will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. He said: “Kevin was a true professional who always gave his all on the field. He was not only a talented player but also an excellent teammate who always supported his fellow players through thick and thin.”
