Guy Strong was a legendary figure in the world of Kentucky basketball, leaving behind a lasting legacy that spanned several decades. From his time playing at the University of Kentucky under Adolph Rupp to his coaching successes at Eastern Kentucky University and beyond, Strong made an indelible mark on the sport.

At the time of his passing, Strong was recognized as the oldest living former Kentucky basketball player. His career began with a National Championship win at UK in 1951 before transferring to Eastern Kentucky University. After serving in the Korean War from 1952-54, he returned to play for EKU and helped the team secure the 1955 conference championship.

Known as a player’s coach, Strong’s attention to detail and passion for the game set him apart. He led Kentucky Wesleyan to an NCAA Division Two Championship in 1966 and guided EKU to an OVC title in 1973. His coaching prowess also led Clark County to three Sweet 16 appearances in 1986, 1989, and 1990.

Strong’s contributions to basketball in Kentucky were recognized with inductions into the Kentucky High School Athletic Hall of Fame and the Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame. His impact on EKU Athletics was immense, and his legacy continues to be honored by fans and players alike.
