Elaine Romero, wife of Louie Riojas, a science teacher at Frontier Academy, has started a fundraiser for her husband who is in need of community support as he prepares for surgery to remove cancer from his body. Riojas, known as “Mr. Real House” by his students, was diagnosed with tonsillar cancer that spread to his neck lymph nodes. However, the good news is that the cancer has not spread further according to the PET scan results.

Despite the positive news, Riojas faces a long road ahead, including undergoing surgery to remove the cancer in his tonsils and neck lymph nodes. Romero shared that her husband remains positive but that the diagnosis has taken a toll on him physically and mentally. He has had to take a break from teaching at Frontier Academy to focus on his recovery, a decision that has been difficult for him.

The support from Riojas’ friends, family, and community at Frontier Academy has been immense, but additional help is needed to cover medical bills, gas, food, and lodging during his surgery in Highlands Ranch. Romero expressed gratitude for any funds raised to support them during this challenging time. She also encouraged loved ones and community members to leave words of encouragement, support or prayers on Riojas’ fundraiser page.

As of Wednesday morning, the family has received 84 donations and raised over $6
