In Raleigh, three separate shootings occurred over the weekend, resulting in six people being injured. Dr. Vivek Murphy, Surgeon General of the United States, has labeled gun violence an epidemic and declared it a public health crisis. In response, he issued an advisory report detailing the consequences of gun violence on health and overall wellbeing, with a focus on its impact on children, communities, and families.

According to the report, gun violence is the leading cause of death among children and adolescents. More than half of adults surveyed reported experiencing gun violence either directly or through a family member. This includes incidents like a family member being killed, witnessing a shooting, or firing a gun themselves. Nearly six out of ten adults expressed concern about their loved ones becoming victims of gun violence.

Communities across the Triangle are feeling the effects of increasing gun violence. Over the weekend, Raleigh experienced three separate shootings that resulted in six people being injured. Six individuals were shot at various locations during a 12-hour span, two of which occurred outside shopping centers. Businesses in Raleigh are lamenting the violence that took place over the weekend and calling for action to address this ongoing issue.
