The Yale Center on Climate Change and Health (YCCCH) has recently launched an Earth Month Giving Campaign to raise funds for health-centered climate solutions. This marks the first matching donation effort for YCCCH, which was established in 2015 at the Yale School of Public Health (YSPH) with the aim of addressing the negative impacts of climate change through research, education, public health practice, and policy development.
The campaign features a matching donation initiative where the first $20,000 in donations will be matched dollar-for-dollar by a group of anonymous donors who believe in the transformative potential of prioritizing human health in driving climate action. These donors view their contributions as investments in hope for combating climate change.
Dr. Robert Dubrow, MD, a professor of epidemiology and the faculty director of the center, emphasized the importance of protecting human health as a powerful yet underutilized driving force for climate action. “We envision a world where a stable and safe climate allows human health and diverse ecosystems to thrive,” he said. “Climate change is not just an environmental issue; it’s also a public health crisis.”
YCCCH collaborates with academic, government, and civil society partners to make a difference at the local, national, and global levels. The center’s work has already had significant impact over the past nine years and one donor highlighted its growth and successes so far. “Fundraising is crucial for organizations like YCCCH to continue making progress,” they said. “Their work is vital to building a better future.”
As YCCCH looks forward to its next decade of work, Dr. Dubrow emphasized the integration of cutting-edge research and social justice into all of its initiatives. The center aims to continue building on its track record of world-class research, education, and public health practice to achieve even greater impact in the critical decade ahead for climate and public health.
