Clément’s new journey is fraught with a heavy financial burden. The railway worker, who was employed for eight years at the South East European Technicentre (TSEE) as an “electrical products technical referent,” owes 37,868.30 euros to his former employer, the SNCF. This debt is equivalent to the salaries paid to him by the railway group from August 31, 2020 to September 30, 2022, even though he no longer worked there. Despite taking leave to resume his studies in March 2020 and beginning a degree in “science, technology, health” at the University of Paris 12 in September of the same year, Clément is now left to self-finance his training, totaling 15,000 euros.

The SNCF does not provide any funding to support Clément’s professional transition. As a result, Clément has had to cover all of his expenses on his own. His CPF account was only a portion of what he needed to pay out. With pressure from his former employer over the debt and no support from their current employer or any external funding sources available to him.

Clément is now facing a challenging position as he embarks on this new chapter in his life with the weight of a significant financial burden on his shoulders. Despite not being able to rely on any external support and having no other choice but to pay off the debt owed to SNCF on his own.

Despite contacting them for commentary on this matter SNCF declined any further information about Clément’s personal situation which leaves many unanswered questions about why they waited so long before discovering this debt and how they plan on collecting it.

Clément’s story serves as a cautionary tale for anyone considering taking time off work or pursuing further education without proper financial planning and support from their employer or any external funding sources available.
