In downtown Brighton, DogWatch recently donated canine emergency kits to Metro Detroit police departments. These kits were purchased by a doggy boutique and invisible fence installation company to support the K-9 officers in the area. The importance of these kits was emphasized by Michigan State trooper Jeff Schrieber, who works with K-9 officer Woodson. Schrieber highlighted the nature of the K-9 officers’ work, where they are often exposed to unfriendly situations daily while working to protect the community.

The donated emergency kits include essential items like bandages, peroxide, nail clippers, and more. Corrie Gizicki from DogWatch found these kits at a pet expo and decided to donate them to the Michigan State Police K-9 unit. The officers expressed their gratitude for the kits, stating that they previously did not have such comprehensive first aid supplies available for their dogs.

During the donation event at the DogWatch store, seven officers and their K-9 partners attended to collect the kits. Gizicki, who works in an emergency room, recognized familiar items in the kit and appreciated the attention to detail in including puppy-themed medical supplies. The kits contain 90 different items to address various medical needs that may arise while the K-9 officers are on duty.

Michigan State Police canine officers face similar dangers and challenges as their human counterparts while working to protect the community. They are involved in locating missing persons, searching for narcotics, and ensuring public safety.
