On Saturday night, Pope Francis took part in the Easter Vigil at the Vatican, delivering a 10-minute homily despite showing signs of being raspy and out of breath. The 87-year-old pontiff baptized eight adults from a seated position at St. Peter’s Basilica while surrounded by approximately 6,000 people.

In his homily, Pope Francis spoke out against selfishness and indifference in the world and expressed sorrow over the destruction of peace caused by hatred and war. He also urged Catholics to remove obstacles in their lives that hinder their progress and faith, calling on believers to ask for divine help in removing heavy burdens that weigh down their souls.

Despite concerns about his health, Pope Francis is set to preside over the Easter Mass on Sunday and give the traditional “Urbi et Orbi” blessing. Recent cancellations due to colds, bronchitis, and the flu have raised questions about his well-being, especially since he had one lung removed earlier in life and currently uses a wheelchair or cane due to knee problems. However, in his memoir published this month, Pope Francis stated that he has no serious issues that would prompt him to consider resigning from his position.
