Police respond to shooting in residential area: 1 officer injured in gunfire

On Sunday morning, Kenner police responded to a call for shots fired in a modest residential area. When they arrived, they found two men in a car, one wounded in the arm and the other in the stomach. The men were on their way to church when they were shot. The neighborhood where the incident occurred appeared rundown, with a railway line nearby and few signs of maintenance.

The police conducted a search and linked one of the houses to a family named Lathers. Matthew Lathers, 31, was suspected of seriously injuring a man during a burglary in the area. He opened fire, injuring five people, including police officers. One of the injured officers was still hospitalized Sunday evening.
