Dr. Robert A. Salata, MD has been the Chair of the Department of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University and University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center (UHCMC) since 2015, as well as the STERIS Chair of Excellence in Medicine. Prior to this, he served as the Chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases and HIV Medicine for nearly 20 years. Dr. Salata is also a founding Director of the Infectious Diseases and Immunology Institute in the School of Medicine.

Dr. Salata’s research interests include clinical trials of antimicrobials and antiretrovirals, as well as HIV co-infections in resource-limited settings. He is also involved in studying the epidemiology and prevention of HIV, with a focus on the use of topical microbicides and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). His work has helped advance our understanding of antimicrobial resistance, HIV prevention strategies, and the treatment of infectious diseases in both developed and developing countries.

Dr. Salata’s dedication to improving global health outcomes has earned him a reputation as a leading expert in his field, with a wealth of experience in infectious diseases. He has made significant contributions through his research and leadership roles, advancing our knowledge on infectious diseases globally.
