On April 15, 2024, the Alpha Zeta Nu Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, a prestigious National Political Science Honor Society, held a grand induction ceremony at the University of Louisiana Monroe. Five distinguished students, Elenora Franco, Haleigh Lewellyan, Jessica DeFreese, Mallory LaBoeuf and Melanna Morris were honored during the event for their academic excellence and commitment to political science.

Pi Sigma Alpha was founded in 1919 at the University of Texas with the aim of encouraging students to study government problems scientifically and practically. The society has since grown into a global network of more than 700 chapters with over 800 new members inducted annually. Membership is based on strict academic criteria including an overall GPA within the top one-third of the graduating class and a minimum GPA of 3.5 in Political Science courses along with completion of more than twelve hours of political science courses.

The keynote address at the ceremony was delivered by David Orr, City Manager of Texarkana, Texas accompanied by Chiquita Burks, current City Management Fellow. Both speakers emphasized on how Pi Sigma Alpha plays a crucial role in fostering reforms in governmental machinery while educating the electorate on critical government issues.

Pi Sigma Alpha’s mission is to stimulate scholarship and intellectual interest in political science among its members. As such, it encourages students to delve deeper into political science research and analysis while also promoting active participation in political discourse and advocacy efforts.
