Syeda Ahmed and her sister Darakshan Ahmed were raised in Karachi, Pakistan, where education was highly valued. While their mother didn’t receive a formal education due to traditional beliefs, both sisters attended school and were also tutored at home by their peers. This upbringing instilled in Syeda a passion for making education accessible to all.
In 2020, this passion led them to establish Tutorsloop, a platform that connects high school students with college student tutors. Drawing inspiration from the peer tutoring model they experienced in Pakistan, Syeda and Darakshan were motivated to provide affordable private tutoring in the Chicago area, where they now reside. They observed that many families in their community struggled to find affordable educational support for their children. The sisters believed their platform could address this need by offering a cost-effective solution for students seeking additional academic assistance.
Despite their enthusiasm, Syeda and Darakshan encountered challenges as they launched Tutorsloop. They soon realized that they underestimated the financial requirements of starting a business and quickly depleted their savings. As newcomers to the business world, they lacked experience in managing finances and other key aspects of entrepreneurship. This setback prompted them to seek outside funding in order to sustain and grow their venture.
Through their determination and commitment to their mission, Syeda and Darakshan overcame initial obstacles and continued to pursue their goal of providing accessible private tutoring services. Their journey with Tutorsloop serves as a testament to their dedication to education and their drive to make a positive impact in their community
