Nintendo has recently announced that they will be unveiling their new game console, set to succeed the Nintendo Switch, sometime during this fiscal year. This news comes alongside a new Nintendo Direct event scheduled for June, where the company will discuss the games coming to the current hardware in the second half of 2024.
The original Nintendo Switch was introduced in 2015 and released two years later, with subsequent updates including models with longer battery life and an OLED screen. The portable-only Switch Lite was also added to the lineup.
President of Nintendo, Shuntaro Furukawa, has confirmed that the successor console will be revealed before the end of the fiscal year, which extends until March 2025. He shared this information on his Twitter account, emphasizing that it will not be later than March of next year – marking almost nine years since the original Switch was announced.
Furthermore, a Nintendo Direct event is set for June 2024 and will focus on software lineup for the current hardware in second half of this year. However, there’s no information about successor console yet in this event. It’s only meant to bring new game announcements and updates for current users to look forward to.
