In Frankfurt, Germany, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey was recently honored with the title of “world’s best new airport terminal” by Skytrax, a renowned global airport evaluation firm. This accolade came after Terminal A at Newark Liberty International Airport received a five-star rating from Skytrax following an extensive evaluation of its facilities, operations, and customer service. The award marked the second consecutive year that the Port Authority has been recognized for their exceptional work at this airport.

LaGuardia Airport’s Terminal B won the award in 2023, making Newark Liberty International Airport and LaGuardia Airport the only two airports in North America to have been awarded the highest Skytrax rating. Governor Phil Murphy of New Jersey praised this recognition as a well-deserved honor for the ongoing renaissance at Newark Liberty International Airport.

Skytrax’s evaluation process for the award included surveys of passengers about their experiences with terminal facilities, staff service, check-in, arrivals, transfers, security, customs, and shopping. The new Terminal A opened in 2023 after replacing the 50-year-old former Terminal A. The $2.7 billion project represented the largest-ever single investment by the Port Authority in New Jersey and was also the state’s largest design-build project. This investment is part of a $30 billion plan to transform major airports in the New York and New Jersey metro area, with future phases focusing on redesigning Terminal B at Newark’s airport.
