Joe Kippley has been appointed as the newest public health director for Sioux Falls by Mayor Paul TenHaken following his previous role as a Minnehaha County commissioner. The Mayor cited Kippley’s background in law and healthcare as assets that would greatly benefit the city. Despite concerns about potential conflicts of interest due to Kippley’s previous role, TenHaken assured the council that the city’s legal team would be equipped to handle any issues that may arise.
Councilor Curt Soehl expressed support for Kippley’s appointment, stating that he had participated in the interview process and wholeheartedly endorsed the decision. The city has been without a permanent public health director since June 2023 when Charles Chima resigned. Amy Richardson and Angie Uthe have been serving as interim directors in the meantime.
With Kippley’s appointment, there is hope that the city’s public health initiatives will continue to be effectively managed and that the community’s health and well-being will be a top priority.
