The Creative Learning Alliance has officially named Joplin’s future science center as the Schroeder Family Exploreum. The name was unveiled during a ceremony held on Friday morning. The new science center will be housed in the old Joplin Library building.

The selection process for the name began with 64 potential options, which were eventually narrowed down to three. The final decision was made by the nonprofit’s board of directors. The naming rights were made possible by a one-million dollar donation from local developer, Rick Schroeder.

Audie Dennis, President of the Creative Learning Alliance Board, expressed gratitude for the support from the Schroeder family and the community. The organization has set a fundraising goal of $6.5 million, with $1.7 million already pledged. The Schroeder Family Exploreum is expected to open in 2025.
