The 2024 T20 World Cup has seen a significant increase in prize money compared to the previous tournament, with a total of $11.25 million this year, up from $5.6 million in 2022. The winning team will receive a record-breaking amount of $2.45 million, an increase of almost $850,000 from the last T20 World Cup.

The runners-up will receive at least $1.28 million, and the losing semi-finalists will each earn $787,500. Teams that make it to the Super Eights stage will receive $382,500 each, while those finishing from ninth to 12th place will get $247,500. Additionally, teams will earn $31,154 for each match they win except for the semi-finals and final.

ICC chief executive Geoff Allardice described the event as historic and fittingly increased the prize money to reflect its significance. The T20 World Cup 2024 began with Canada defeating USA in the opening match and features a total of 20 teams divided into four groups with five teams each. There will be 40 first-round matches before the top eight teams advance to the Super Eights stage, leading to the identification of the four semi-finalists.

The semi-finals will take place on June 27 in Tarouba and Providence, and the final will be played in Bridgetown on June 29. Each group features a mix of competitive teams, setting the stage for an exciting and highly anticipated tournament.

In conclusion, the increase in prize money for the T20 World Cup is a testament to its growing popularity and significance in world cricket. With more teams competing for higher stakes than ever before, fans can expect an epic battle for supremacy on and off the field.
