On Monday, March 25, the Tzedek Hevrati – Social Justice reform of the public transport system will be implemented. This reform aims to make public transport more accessible and affordable for various groups in society.
Residents of settlements in the periphery will receive discounts based on their socio-economic status. Those in the first to fifth socio-economic deciles will pay 50% less for a monthly travel pass. Additionally, students aged 18 to 26 will receive a 33% discount, disabled individuals and recipients of benefits from Bituach Leumi will get a 50% discount, and demobilized military personnel who have completed national service within a year will be completely exempt from public transport fees.
The second stage of the reform is set to take effect in a few months and will exempt retirees from paying for public transport. Women eligible at 62 years old and men at 67 years old. Discounts will also be introduced for low-income individuals based on the socio-economic status of their locality. The Ministry of Transport estimates significant annual savings for different groups such as demobilized soldiers, periphery residents, and young people.
