In 2027, Volkswagen will unveil its entry-level electric car model. The estimated price of this new addition to their lineup is around 20,000 euros. The board meeting on Tuesday approved the development of this model. While the specific production location has not been disclosed yet, Volkswagen confirmed that it will be built in Europe. Group CEO Oliver Blume stated, “We are making a clear commitment to industrial production in Europe.”

Thomas Schäfer, CEO of Volkswagen’s core brand, emphasized the importance of attractive vehicles for making electromobility more widespread. Specifically, he highlighted the entry-level segment as crucial for achieving this goal. Meanwhile, Audi currently produces the Audi Q8 e-tron at their factory in Brussels. However, after 2027, the successor to this model will no longer be built there.

Due to uncertainty surrounding the future of the Brussels factory, Prime Minister Alexander De Croo established an Audi task force to address the situation effectively. Flemish Minister of Economy Jo Brouns is working on a list of possible support measures that Flanders can provide to aid Audi Brussels. These measures will be submitted and consolidated within the task force before being presented to address the issue effectively.
