Encinitas Fire Chief Josh Gordon recently unveiled new drone equipment that will significantly enhance fire and lifeguard rescue operations at the beach. The fire department received one larger drone and two smaller drones, which will be used on land and at sea to provide a bird’s eye view of fires, locate stranded individuals in the water, identify potential threats such as sharks, and assist in locating victims in rollover traffic accidents.
The new equipment includes a regular and thermal camera and a PA system all in one, which will be beneficial in rescue operations. Chief Gordon expressed excitement over the new equipment, stating that it will improve response times in emergency situations. He emphasized that the firefighters and lifeguards will receive extensive training to operate the drones effectively to enhance safety and rescue efforts along the coast.
