The College Football Playoff is expanding to 12 teams, which means the college football season will now extend into almost January. This new format will require some adjustment for fans and teams alike, but it’s the new reality of college football.
The schedule for the 2025 season has been determined, including the exact number of weeks needed to determine the national champion, the dates of each game, and which network will televise each matchup. While Notre Dame is predicted to be in contention for the playoff this season, it remains to be seen if they will be good enough to host a first-round game, assuming they even make it into the playoffs.
To be safe, it would be wise for neither of the Irish basketball teams to schedule games at Purcell Pavilion during that weekend, at least until that Sunday. This new format plays a significant role in determining the national champion alongside regular-season performance. While traditionalists may not be thrilled with the changes, this is the direction that college football is heading in.
