The construction of a new border crossing and bridge near Gradiška, on the Croatian bank of the Sava River, is set to be operational by April 2025. The project, which includes a new road connection between Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, has been jointly financed by Croatia and BiH with the support of the European Union. Although completed in 2022, the bridge is not yet operational due to the lack of a border crossing on the Croatian side and an incomplete connecting road to the Zagreb-Lipovac highway.

However, regular traffic jams and long wait times continue at the current border crossing near Gradiška as it continues to use an old bridge. To address this issue, a contract has been signed with a contractor to build facilities at the future GP Gradiška, expected to be operational by April 10, 2024. The completion deadline for these works is just one year from the signing of the contract. While the Bosnia and Herzegovina side of the border crossing is ready for use, work still needs to be done on widening the connecting road in Croatia for full functionality of the new bridge.

The project has been divided into two sections with final works underway on Section 1 which should be completed by autumn. The Croatian Highways (HAC) recently announced that they have selected “Integral Engineering” as their partner for continuation of works worth around €13.6 million once completed. This new border crossing and bridge will provide a more efficient and convenient road connection between Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
