The forum aimed to increase the number of foreign workers in Israel, reduce costs of living for citizens, streamline bureaucracy, improve control over their employment and protect their rights.
Netanyahu instructed that a proposal be submitted for government approval to establish the number of foreign workers allowed in Israel and implement an adjustment mechanism if unemployment among Israeli citizens rises. The government will approve the forum’s decision on how to distribute quotas among different sectors based on current needs.
The plans include reducing duties and fees for obtaining permits for foreign workers in construction, agriculture, and industry. Resources will also be allocated to improve supervision systems and address issues faced by foreign workers, which will help reduce regulatory burden on employers.
An agreement was reached to bring 6,000 workers from India to Israel in April and May through funding from Chief Minister’s Ministry, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Construction. This is the largest number of subsidized charter flights bringing foreign construction workers to Israel.
