During a recent meeting, members of the Syracuse Redevelopment Commission discussed the sale of Lot 7 in the Syracuse Tech Park. In attendance were Virginia Cazier, the Syracuse Clerk-Treasurer; David Rosenberry, Jeff Goralclzyk, David Wilkinson, Nathan Scherer, Corey Mast, Don Bokhart from Wawasee Community Schools; and Mark Aurich, the public works superintendent.

The commission approved the sale of Lot 7 to Titan Concrete, a family-owned business. The company plans to build on the property despite being aware of the utility lines that run beneath it. The weight of any structure built on the lot could potentially be an issue due to these utilities running underneath.

However, Town Manager David Wilkinson informed the commission that he had finally been able to reach someone at a Canadian pipeline company that owns one of those utilities. While there are specific requirements for building over this pipeline, it is possible with proper documentation. One requirement is that Titan must provide the weight of every vehicle that could potentially go over it.

Lot 7 has been listed at a price of $22,000 and Titan is willing to pay along with putting down $4,000 in earnest money. Additionally, the commission approved two resolutions that captured all tax increment revenues from various Tax Increment Finance Districts including Oakwood, Syracuse, Syracuse-Polywood South Benton and Allen Residential Economic Development Areas.

Overall, while there are some concerns about building on top of utility lines and potential weight restrictions on structures built on Lot 7, Titan Concrete’s plan to purchase and develop this land could bring economic benefits to Syracuse and its residents.
