A national strike by staff from Trenitalia, Trenitalia Tper, and Trenord caused widespread delays, cancellations, and inconveniences on a Sunday. The strike, which lasted until 2 am on Monday, was organized by the PDM/PDB National Assembly comprising engine personnel and on-board staff who were demanding better working conditions. The lack of guarantee bands due to the public holiday exacerbated the problems for passengers, especially those traveling on high-speed trains.

Despite the chaos on the railways, Italo’s connections remained regular throughout the strike period. In Lombardy, only 20% of trains were running as scheduled, with many cancellations in all routes including Regional and High-Speed trains. The strike caused delays exceeding 80 minutes for passengers at Rome’s Termini station, where dozens of trains were canceled or ran with delays of over 30 minutes. Prior to the strike, Trenitalia had sent out over 75 thousand text messages and emails to inform passengers about potential disruptions and the call center handled an increased volume of calls nearly triple the usual on a Sunday.

In Campania, regional unions demanded better working conditions for the Trenitalia Dbr Campania Crew Staff leading to a 23-hour abstention from work affecting services in the region. Despite these challenges and disruptions caused by strikes efforts were made to provide assistance to passengers in need of information at major stations.
