Microsoft Corp is set to invest approximately $2.9 billion in Japan over the next two years to enhance its artificial intelligence (AI) business, according to a report by the Nikkei newspaper. The company’s president, Brad Smith, will announce the plans during Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s visit to the United States soon.
As part of the investment, Microsoft will be installing advanced AI semiconductors at two existing facilities located in eastern and western Japan. Additionally, the company plans to introduce an AI-related reskilling program in Japan aimed at training 3 million workers over a three-year period. Furthermore, Microsoft will establish a new lab in Tokyo dedicated to research and development in the fields of robotics and AI.
