Mayor Brandon Johnson announced his plan to expand mental health services in Chicago at a reopened Roseland Mental Health Center on East 115th Street. The center, which had been closed, will now provide clinical services to the community. In addition, the city will expand its mental health offerings at two more city-run locations: a clinic in the Pilsen neighborhood and the Legler Regional Library in West Garfield Park.

During his announcement, Mayor Johnson spoke about his personal connection to this mission, citing his own brother’s struggles with mental health and eventual death. He emphasized the importance of addressing the neglect and lack of resources in Chicago’s mental health care system. He pledged to improve the city’s mental health infrastructure and provide comprehensive and accessible mental health services to all Chicagoans in need.

Mayor Johnson declared that his administration will not tolerate any further cuts or neglect of the city’s mental health care system. He vowed to usher in a new era of support and resources for individuals and families dealing with mental health challenges. This initiative aims to provide comprehensive and accessible mental health services to the people of Chicago.
