A Malaysia Airlines Boeing 738 aircraft was forced to turn back and make an emergency landing at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport only 15 minutes after takeoff from Hyderabad, India. This happened due to a fire in the engine, which caused sparks to emanate. The incident was captured on video by The Straits Times.

Malaysia Airlines confirmed that the affected plane had safely landed in Hyderabad with no injuries reported. All passengers and crew disembarked safely, and affected passengers were to be reallocated to other flights for their continued journey. This incident adds to the series of Boeing mishaps this year, including an incident involving an Alaska Airlines flight and a United Airlines flight.

Boeing CEO David Calhoun recently defended the company’s safety record on Capitol Hill amid growing concerns about quality control. Multiple whistleblowers from Boeing have come forward, alleging improper practices within the company. Neither Malaysia Airlines nor Boeing responded to a request for comment from Business Insider outside of normal working hours.
