During a meeting in Paris, French President Emmanuel Macron reaffirmed France’s dedication to preventing any further escalation of violence between Lebanon and Israel. He met with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati and the head of the Lebanese army, Joseph Aoun, expressing France’s determination to support the Lebanese Armed Forces.

Macron emphasized that all parties involved in maintaining peace in the region must take responsibility for finding a solution to the institutional crisis gripping Lebanon. He announced plans to work closely with European partners to support Lebanon and urged Lebanese political leaders to come together to resolve the crisis.

Since the end of President Michel Aoun’s mandate, Lebanon has been unable to appoint a successor, leading to political gridlock. Najib Mikati currently leads a resigned government with limited powers, as the country fears being drawn into a conflict with Israel. Recent clashes between Hezbollah and Israel have heightened tensions in the region, prompting concerns of further escalation.

The situation in Lebanon remains fragile, with ongoing violence and political instability posing a threat to peace in the Middle East. Macron’s engagement in the crisis reflects France’s commitment to supporting Lebanon and working towards a peaceful resolution.
