A Peace Summit for Ukraine was organized in Lucerne (Switzerland) by President Volodymyr Zelensky, attended by 84 countries and organizations. The signatories called for Ukraine’s nuclear facilities to be under complete sovereign control of Kyiv and for the return of Ukrainians in Russia, including children. Russia’s inclusion in future peace talks was deemed necessary.

The final declaration emphasized the importance of participation and dialogue between all parties to achieve lasting peace. It also stressed the need for Ukraine’s nuclear facilities to operate safely under the complete sovereign control of Kyiv and under its supervision. The signatories condemned attacks on merchant ships and civilians in ports as unacceptable.

Despite several Global South countries being absent from the final declaration, the Ukrainian government accepted this decision, stating that the goal was to provide a platform for all opinions. The Ukrainian Foreign Minister reiterated the importance of promoting dialogue to reach the right decisions.

President Zelensky described the summit as a success and highlighted the importance of all signatories supporting Ukraine’s territorial integrity for lasting peace. The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, called on Russia to pay attention to the international community’s message and end its imperialist violence for a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.
