London Police Disrupt Criminal Network ‘LabHost’, Arrest 37 Suspects for Banking Fraud

London police have successfully infiltrated a criminal network known as “LabHost” that was used by 2,000 criminals to defraud people online. This operation resulted in the arrest of 37 suspects. The network, which had been active since 2021, specialized in creating phishing sites to fraudulently obtain banking details.

According to Scotland Yard, LabHost managed to defraud individuals of nearly £800,000 ($1.1 million) since its inception. An investigation revealed that over 56,000 victims in the UK had provided personal information on one of LabHost’s fraudulent sites. The global operation led by the London Metropolitan Police disrupted LabHost and led to the identification of over 42,695 phishing sites linked to the network.

Europol collaborated with police forces from 19 countries on the investigation and stated that LabHost had obtained over 483,675 bank card numbers and one million passwords worldwide. The network had around 9,888 users and a particularly destructive element that allowed criminals to monitor phishing campaigns in real-time, bypassing security measures.

Deputy Commissioner Lynne Owens from Scotland Yard emphasized the impunity with which online fraudsters operate, hiding behind platforms like LabHost. Owens noted that the arrest of the suspects involved in this criminal network was a significant achievement in combating online fraud.
