The Lions recently released cornerback Cameron Sutton, who was charged with a misdemeanor count of domestic battery after being sought by police in a domestic violence case. On March 7, an arrest warrant was issued with a felony count of domestic battery by strangulation. Authorities responded to a call about a domestic violence incident in progress and found a female victim with assault injuries. Despite efforts, police were unable to locate Sutton, leading the Hillsborough County sheriff’s office to post on social media that he was a wanted criminal.
At the time of the news breaking, Sutton was at the Lions’ facility. The team decided to release him and void his $10.5 million guaranteed salary for 2024. Sutton and his agent are likely to fight this decision, as well as his legal battle against the domestic battery charge. It remains uncertain how this situation will unfold further.
