The Las Vegas Aces recently announced the decision to waive rookie guard Dyaisha Fair, who was the third-leading scorer in NCAA Division I women’s basketball history with 3,403 points. Fair was selected as the 16th overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft last month and impressed during training camp to earn a spot on the Aces’ roster. However, she faced challenges due to her size as a point guard and had limited playing time in the first two weeks of the season. In her professional debut against Indiana Fever, Fair did not score but provided two assists.

The decision by the Aces to waive Fair may not be surprising given their current depth issues following Candace Parker’s retirement and Chelsea Gray’s injury. The team is dealing with depth concerns, with A’ja Wilson, Jackie Young, and Kelsey Plum accounting for over 75% of their points in the first four games of the season. This has left other players on the roster with limited contributions. To find additional support until Gray returns to action, the team may look towards free-agent options such as Odyssey Sims, Sydney Wiese, and Shey Peddy. These veteran guards could provide valuable minutes off the bench and be crucial for the team’s hopes of securing a third consecutive championship.

Despite these challenges, the reigning champion Las Vegas Aces are off to a strong start this season with a 3-1 record, putting them in second place in the standings. The team will continue to navigate their depth issues and work on finding solutions to ensure they remain competitive throughout the season.
