Jonathan Levin, who has been serving as the dean of the business school at Stanford University for the past eight years, has been appointed as the 13th president of the prestigious institution. He will officially assume the role in the fall, succeeding Richard Saller, who has been the interim president since September 2023.

In a statement, Levin expressed his gratitude and humility in being chosen to lead Stanford University, a place that has been significant to him for over three decades. He has been a faculty member at Stanford since 2000 and has received awards for his work in economics. In addition to his academic role, Levin is also a member of President Joe Biden’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.

Having completed his undergraduate studies at Stanford in English and mathematics, Levin went on to earn a master’s degree from Oxford University and a PhD from MIT. He credits Stanford for shaping his academic career and providing opportunities for collaboration and innovation.

The search for the new president involved a 20-member committee that spent seven months in recruiting and assessing candidates, ultimately selecting Jonathan Levin for the prestigious role. He is set to start his tenure as president on August 1st, ready to lead the university towards continued excellence in education and research.
