A small, family-owned bakery in the Hudson Valley recently received a generous donation of new kitchen equipment thanks to a feud with John Oliver. The comedian had recreated his own version of a Red Lobster to make the chain’s famous cheddar biscuits, beating out other interested parties. Eric Deising, owner of Deising’s Bakery in Kingston, had left a sign at the Red Lobster inquiring about specific ovens but missed out to Oliver.

When Deising’s Bakery found out Oliver had donated all the equipment but hadn’t purchased the items Deising requested, Oliver offered a challenge. He said he would gift Deising’s Bakery the ovens if they could make and sell bear-shaped cakes with his face on them. Deising’s Bakery rose to the challenge, creating and selling the cakes with Oliver’s face made of edible paper. The “cake bears” have been incredibly popular, with approximately 100 selling every hour at $8 apiece.

Despite requests to ship the cake bears internationally, they are only available in-store through Sunday. The bakery estimates the value of the new kitchen equipment, totaling thousands of dollars, and it is set to be delivered on Thursday. A representative for “Last Week Tonight” did not provide a comment when contacted by Business Insider.
