Jerry Seinfeld is making waves in the movie industry with his feature directorial debut in Netflix’s Unfrosted, a comedy centered around the creation of Pop-Tarts. In a recent interview, the stand-up comedian opened up about his experience in filmmaking and how it differs from his previous work.

Reflecting on his time in the industry, Seinfeld shared, “It was totally new to me. I thought I had done some cool stuff, but it was nothing like the way these people work. They’re so dead serious! They don’t have any idea that the movie business is over. They have no idea.”

Seinfeld discussed how the film industry no longer holds the same importance in society as it once did. He explained, “Film doesn’t occupy the pinnacle in the social, cultural hierarchy that it did for most of our lives… Now we’re walking through a fire hose of water, just trying to see.”

When asked what has replaced film, Seinfeld humorously suggested, “Depression? Malaise? I would say confusion. Disorientation replaced the movie business.” Despite the changes in the industry, Seinfeld noted that his craft in stand-up comedy has remained valuable.

Referring to stand-up comedy as his specialty, Seinfeld compared it to being a skilled cabinetmaker in a world filled with trees. He emphasized the importance of good craftsmanship and how audiences are drawn to the authenticity of stand-up performances. Seinfeld’s comedic talents have remained popular among audiences and have proven to be timeless in an era where many aspects of the entertainment industry feel inauthentic.

In addition to his work on Unfrosted, Seinfeld recently appeared in the finale of Curb Your Enthusiasm alongside Larry David. The two creators of Seinfeld poked fun at the controversial Seinfeld finale. Seinfeld’s unique perspective on the film industry and his unwavering commitment to stand-up comedy have solidified his place as a respected and enduring figure in entertainment.
