The controversial Brentwood property, located at 865 Golfair Blvd. across from KIPP Voice Academy K-7 school, has faced opposition from neighbors for months over plans to turn it into a drive-thru liquor store. However, Mayor Donna Deegan has announced that the property will be transformed into a small-business support center instead. This decision comes after the Jacksonville City Council voted to purchase the property for $1.8 million in November 2023 and decided to repurpose it as a community or resource center to benefit the neighborhood.

Residents had argued against having a liquor store in the area in 2023, leading to backlash and opposition. However, this new development is expected to provide support for local businesses in the area and benefit the community as a whole.
