IU Health’s southwest Fort Wayne property, previously rezoned for a medical complex, remains in limbo despite approval from the Allen County Commissioners two years ago. The land near I-69 at Lower Huntington and Ernst Roads was designated for an IU Health medical facility that could include a 150-foot-tall medical building.

In 2019, IU Health purchased the property and began construction on a medical office building. However, there has been no visible progress on the project in the past two years, despite concerns from residents about potential commercial projects affecting the environment and the area’s quiet atmosphere.

Recent updates from IU Health officials in Indianapolis shed no new light on the situation in southwest Fort Wayne. When contacted for information, the response from the IU Health spokesperson indicated that there was no new information available at this time. Similarly, inquiries to the IU Health Fort Wayne president were not immediately answered.

Currently, the IU Health medical office building at Lower Huntington and Ernst Roads is operational. It remains uncertain when or if a third major hospital will be built in Fort Wayne, as the future of the proposed medical complex remains unclear.
