In a major move, Israel has released 150 Palestinian prisoners from detention following a more than six-month military offensive in the Gaza Strip. The prisoners, who were held by the Israeli occupation, were released in groups and some of them were reported to have been severely ill-treated during their detention.

The latest group of released prisoners was brought back into the Gaza Strip via the Kerem Shalom border crossing from Israel. The border crossing authority and an AFP journalist confirmed this information. Some of the prisoners were treated at a hospital in the city of Rafah in the southern part of the Palestinian territory.

Israel did not provide a comment on the release but stated that mistreatment of prisoners is prohibited. They mentioned that individuals not involved in terrorist activities would be released back to the Gaza Strip. Last month, concerns were raised about the treatment of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli detention, with reports of torture and abuses being highlighted by various organizations, including the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

The release of these prisoners is a positive step towards upholding international law and human rights standards. It is important to ensure that all individuals, regardless of their circumstances, are treated with dignity and respect. This move brings hope to those impacted by conflict in the region and serves as a reminder that human rights must be respected and upheld at all times.
